Outdoor Activity Volunteer Programme.
The Outdoor Activity Volunteer Programme is looking for volunteers to become involved in encouraging members outdoors in the community to benefit their well being.
West Cornwall Mind run several walk groups a month in various locations throughout Kerrier and Penwith. Studies have shown that being active in the outdoors conveys additional mental health benefit, reducing stress and increasing feelings of well being. Mind Walk Leaders help deliver walks in many scenic areas, encouraging members to have some fresh air, take some exercise, make friends and enjoy the beautiful Cornish countryside. The walks are led by two volunteer walk leaders and coordinated by a Mind member of staff (Team Leader). A walk leader will be expected to meet members at a designated meeting point and support and encourage members along the way.
West Cornwall Mind also have an allotment plot in Camborne that is shortly to be developed into a community garden with an opportunity for volunteers and members to share creative ideas, growing fruit, flowers and vegetables and recognising the benefits of growing your own food.
No previous experience is necessary for either volunteering opportunities as we offer a volunteer induction programme and a one day walk leader course in-house, delivered by our trainer in partnership with ‘Walking for Health’, Natural England.
Volunteers must be able to offer support, encouragement and understanding to our members without being judgemental. The ability to listen, understand and show compassion, as well as being able commit a few hours a month to lead a walk group and attend the allotment are a must for this role.
